I know it's long but please take the time to read.
Located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, 1140 Royal Street to be exact, is a three story mansion wrought in iron work and wood carvings. This is where our story begins; The tale of the LaLaurie mansion and what came of those after.
Note to readers, much of this is not for the faint of heart.
In 1832 Dr. Louis LaLaurie and his wife, Delphine, moved into the mansion. They quickly became renowned for their social affairs and were respected for their wealth and prominence. She was considered one of the most intelligent, influential and beautiful Creole women in the city, but this was the side of Madame Lalaurie the friends and admirers were allowed to see. There was another side.
As was normal for the wealthy, the LaLaurie's had many slaves, but unlike most of the slave owners, Madama LaLaurie was sickeningly cruel to hers. One night Madame LaLaurie was seen chasing a young girl with a whip until the young slave girl found her way to the roof, where her mistress attempted to beat her. It is said that rather than be beaten for another second the girl, Jaya La Mar, with her last breath cried a curse at Madame Lalaurie, screaming that her family would pay for what she had done here, that there would be no peace for or her blood line here. The poor girl then jumped to her Death.
The curse was of course ignored and nothing changed within the household but soon the LaLaurie's were being shunned by the rest of the Creole society, but t wasn't until April 1834 that everything came to light. A huge fire swept through the house one evening, believed to have been started by a the desperate cook who had been chained to the fireplace, and what was discovered after the fire was far more grisly and inhumane than anyone had imagined. As everyone made haste to the house the LaLaurie family disappeared into the night, never to be heard from again.

Above is the short version (I know it doesn't seem so) of a much longer and much more gruesome tale, if you have the time and stomach to be interested in reading it, it can be found here.
