The thundering sound of stampeding hooves rumbling over the countryside could be heard long before the scene played into view. Out of the mist and fog of early morn shot a single rider, his horse struggling to keep at a run, while the man himself looked quite out of breath. On they tumbled over the hills, towards a dense thicket. Once inside, the rider could become lost to his chasers, once inside…he would no longer need to run. Their voices were catching up with him now. Shouts and threats of what they would do when they caught him echoed through the air. He was a pirate, a mongrel in the eyes of nobility, and would be dealt with accordingly.
Only feet now from the woodlands, they were closing in. A shot rang out into the sky as it whizzed past the man’s ear and out of sight. The rider cursed under his breath as he looked at an object on his wrist that looked misplaced...out of its time. It would only be a matter of seconds now before he would miss his chance. Jabbing the animal in the sides he urged it to speed up. An archway created by two curved trees loomed out of the fog…that was his destination, the best way to get through. He bounded on, new life in his chest, he was almost free. Finally, reaching the edge of the forest he jumped from his beast and rolled through the archway. Standing up immediately on the other side, but no guards could be seen now, his horse had disappeared. The rider smiled triumphantly at the place where they should have been…where they had faded away. He had made it just in time.
