Welcome to Kennington Ohio, home of the mighty Kennington High Huskers (State Football Champions five years running), Lily Belle’s Family Diner, and more square mileage of cornfields than can be found anywhere else in the United States. Most of the kids spend their entire lives trying to escape the town while a handful of the rich come here seeking solace from the hectic lives they once lived. One way or another, the town takes you. Its close-knit farm community will stop at nothing to ensure that Kennington appeals to outsiders as a picture perfect country town. Citizens cannot so much as walk down the street without meeting a handful of people they know. Worse than that, everyone is into everyone else's business and rumors spread like wildfire. Secrets, in this town, are unheard of, though that doesn't stop the majority of the populace from having them. For a while.
Claustrophobia quickly ensues for those who do not think of the town as their permanent home. The conservative values held by the vast majority of the town inadvertently chokes out any open-mindedness children might stumble across. It is all done for good reasons, but as always, the parental generation has very little understanding of their children. Beneath the surface of this pristine little town, trouble brews. Secrets are exposed, rumors are spread, and differences are shunned.
This, however, has not stopped nature. Teens will be teens, regardless of what culture tries to tell them. However, teens also will strive for acceptance. Because of this, double lives are lived. Masks are donned and identities are crafted only to promote the idea that they are someone others want them to be. Of course, there are always your teens that already fit into these preconceived ideas. There are those who love it in Kennington. Those whose dream it is to buy some land and start a farm, or continue in their parent’s business. These are more common actually. A down-home, country town like Kennington often does a good job of bringing up children with ideas that coincide with the general populace. But every once in a while, someone different shows up. And even more often, closely guarded secrets are dug up.
At one point in their lives, all teens must make decisions. They must decide who their real friends are. They must decide to love or lose, to live or die, to be real or hide. Sadly, so many choose to seal themselves behind masks. Just like so many schools about the country, the hallways of Kennington High are filled with
