So here she was. With little musterings of excitement stirring within her she was stood, lazing and half lounging against the wrought iron fence that was meant to keep people like her from toppling right overboard and into the murky and alligator infested waters below. In that moment, her clear blue eyes were fixed on those very waters, as if she could spot one of the many perils that swam beneath her in the green tinged waters of the Mississippi. Unfortunately for her the most movement she saw in beneath the boat was the swirl of waterweeds as they became entangled in the huge red wheel that powered the boat.
Reluctantly after many phonecalls from her Grandmother enquiring as to whether she enjoyed the 'river experience' or not, Alina had finally decided it was time to give a truthful answer and take the trip, not that she was looking forward to it that much. With her excessively pale skin, she was particularly at risk from the suns harsh rays, and though it was at the moment, hidden behind a low hanging cloud she could still feel the intensity of it's reach as it snaked towards her through the fluffy barrier between them. Though of course, being Alina, she hadn't quite gotten used to lathering herself in sun screen, she was risking it, as usual. When she had first arrived she had, after her sisters harsh words, had surrendered to covering herself with a thick layer of coconut scentered white goo, but after noticing how many wayward flies seemed to love getting stuck in the tacky surface, she had quickly given up any relationship she was forging between her and the protection.
If she got burnt, she got burnt, it didn't matter, there was no one around her to give her sympathy any more, she was a grown adult with complete custody of herself, there would be no crying to mommy, and she doubted Livv would really care if she were to moan to her slightly younger twin sister. The blonde would just tell her it was her own fault, and though it was true, Alina would argue, and what would ensue would be a completely pointless exchange of petty words. The very thought of it brought a small smile to the curve of her lips and she almost wondered if it would be worth it just to pass the many hours of the afternoon that spread out before her as soon as she stepped off the steps of the steamboat.
For the moment however she might as well try and enjoy the view. Either side of her, miles and miles of greenery spread in a wet paradise that she had never witnessed in New York City. With a sigh she had to admit to herself that there were some nice things about living this far South, the men weren't that bad after all.

`d a y s r o l l e d o nSHOUT IT OUT LOUD, DAYS ROLLED ONWe know the price we pay.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As a rather gruff and portly man shouted orders somewhere further down the boat, she let her eyes move in slightly curiosity to follow his awkward little movements as he wadled down the boat, gesturing wildly towards one of the boats added extras that Alina had no idea about, it may have been something integral to keeping them afloat or a simple decroation. After watching him for a few minutes she decided it wasn't as interesting as it had first appeared and she turned away, ignoring his yells and pushing them to the back of her mind. Where as some of the other people on board were whispering nervously that something was seriously wrong, Alina wasn't overly bothered, it was a big boat, and she could swim. What was the worst that could happen? Surely the gaters would go after the fat guy instead of her first, she could only be tough to chew.
The only thing to break her mind from the monotonous movement of the boat and the identical scenery that flashed by her eyes, far too slowly for her liking, was the sudden temperature drop that was most welcome. As a cool breeze danced across her skin, bringing goose pimples to the smooth surface of her arms a story floated back to her mind. The river boat, of course, like every other goddamn place in New Orleans, was supposed to be haunted, something Alina had taken little interest in, but the stories from her Grandmother as a child, tellind her that if you were in the presence of the undead you would surely be chilled, swam in her mind. Of course Alina didn't believe a word of it, and as she stood on the deck, the chill cutting through the suns rays, she still did not believe them.
Looking up slightly she stared directly towards the empty space beside her, feeling another breeze hit her face, bringing a small intake of breath from her, people were right, it really was so much harder to breathe in the heat. Enjoying the nice change she turned her body slightly, taking in the sight behind her which included a small brunnette girl who who's eyes were fixed directly on the spot where Alina was standing, and the space beside her. Now Alina didn't really mind people looking at her, she was used to it and her arrogance loved to be pampered every now and again, but she did not appreciate when said voyeur was stifling a laugh. With a look of annoyance but a mild curiosity dancing in her eyes that she couldn't fight off, she regarded the girl and spoke evenly, her voice high but full of a silent authority she had been taught as a child. Can I help you? everything about the phrase was polite but it summoned an answer.
