slurred slightly, just for the benefit of the guy. Danny wasn't drunk, at least not right now. He wanted to be though. Got a number for someone I can call? The bartender, Pete, he'd said, asked him. "Livv Lior." he said smoothly, showing a hint of a cocky grin as he glanced at the guy behind the counter. What's the number? Danny looked at him for a moment, hesitating only to bother the guy more, "955-4200" he told him, looking smug all over again. Sitting back, Danny took another long drink from the glass that sat in front of him. Was it his fourth or fifth? Or...was it the sixth? Danny couldn't remember. But, that was only what he had consumed here. He shook his head as he grinned slightly, listening to Pete speak into the phone. Miss Lior, he spoke, A Danny James has asked me to call you because he can't get home by himself safely. There was a lag in conversation and Danny supposed that Livv was speaking. Sure, sure, the bartender said before turning to him as he hung up the phone. You're ride should be here shortly, he told him, this time a smug smile was on his face. You're drunk, the guy told him confidently. "I swear to drunk I'm not God." Danny told him, witholding the grin he wished he could display. After a moment, his mind drifted to Livv. She was...a friend of his to say the least. Someone he had met in..New York off all places. It had been one of his "find himself" trips that he sporadically went on when he fell into a funk, getting stuck in the horrifying details of his past. This particular female, had shown him a good time in New York and had almost, almost made him forget about everything. Now, where was she?[/blockquote][/ul]

All the time that you were gone, I thought about how things went wrong. And now you're coming down to earth, okay ... hello. Welcome to the world. The lyrics filtered through the air, catching Livv Lior's attention almost immediately. Dropping the shirt she was holding without a second though, Livv walked towards the mahogany desk placed across the suite that she had chosen as her room; the silk shirt landing almost without a sound. Flipping the phone open with ease and looking in the mirror Livv listened to Pete inform her of Danny's current situation. As the conversation grew more towards the 'he's very drunk' lines Livv began gently biting down on her bottom lip, tugging on her on the ring looped through the right side. I'll be there soon. Please tell Danny to be ready. She said kindly, rolling her eyes as she heard the familiar, sarcastic and slurred speech of her longtime friend...or whatever he was.
Snapping the phone shut Livv immediately grasped her keys in one hand, tucked her phone into one of the pockets on her purse before slinging it over her shoulder. As she headed out the door, calling to Marie to lock it as neither she or her sister were going to be home, Livv thought about how she'd met Danny. A few excellent nights on the town in New York city, for a short short time Livv had thought she'd found the guy she'd always been looking for. But the more they drank, seeing to what extent he would do so ... she knew he was far too damaged for him to be capable of loving her in such a way. Disappointing, but they trusted each other in a very precarious way, they never expected nor required the other to tell more than they were willing to share.
Arriving at the bar in record time, her rental car, a Dodge Intrepid that her father had set up for her until she found a new one, Livv pulled in front of the bar, removed the key from the ignition and headed inside. Nodding at Pete with a look of apology, sympathy, and humor she headed towards Danny, leaning backwards on the bar with her elbows, tossing her sauced friend a coy smile. Getting started without me? Livv's tone was simple and sweet, the way she was always capable of being with Danny. No matter how rude, obnoxious, sarcastic, or beligerant he was to everyone around them ... he still found something endearing enough about her to care the most. Do you want to come to my house for a bit, babe? She asked, not thinking twice about the name at the end of the sentence. She'd been calling Danny that for years. Reaching forward slowly and gently Livv ran a few soft, slender fingers through his hair and down his cheek. You've had enough I'd say. Her words earnest and concerned, like only she was capable of, rather than patronizing as she was sure he'd taken Pete's words.
She wasn't sure what it was about Danny that made them stay glued together, what she adored and what she didn't. But he had a certain bit of her just for him. Her eyes held an emotion for the man that she couldn't explain. Part of her wanted both of them to just ... disappear into each other for awhile; leave the world behind for a day. Then hold that memory to themselves and go about their lives. But Livv was not the sort of girl to do such things without first being provoked. Want me to get sauced with you? She asked, in hopes of cracking at least a small smile.

, Danny shook his head at the thought of it but smiled at the guy, "You got it." He looked around for a few moments and began to tap his fingers on the counter in his 'i'm bored now' type of way. After a few moments, the door opened and Livv Lior entered. You could call her Danny's best friend, in one odd way or another. She got that title because well, she looked past his alcoholic and sarcastic ways and...supposedly saw something deeper to this closed off and almost mean twenty-year-old. How long had it been since he'd known her? Two years? He couldn't remember the exact date but he remembered the place. New York. Yeah, they'd had fun times there. He listened to the buzzing of the people around him before Livv leaned on the counter as she stood next to him, tossing him a smile as she asked him if he was getting started without her. "Never." he told her, slurring his speech ever so slightly just to keep Pete's theory going. After a moment, Livv spoke up asking him if he wanted to go to her place, "Why?" he asked her, turning his blue gaze up to her face before winking at her as he spoke again, "So you'll have a special plaything again?" he asked her jokingly, his smile gentle and disarming, playful even. He felt her hand in his hair before her fingers trailed down his face as she told him that she thought he'd had enough. "But I'm not so think as you drunk I am." he repeated, just as he had with Pete. Yes, he was having quite a lot of fun messing with people right about now. Danny glanced around for a few moments before looking back at his friend, nodding at her slightly, "Okay, We'll go to your place." he told her, finally giving her a straight forward answer. After Danny spoke, Livv asked him if he wanted her to get sauced with him. "No, s'okay. Someone needs to get...me home...s-safely." he said, tripping over the last word as he grinned at her. Glancing back at the bartender, he nodded to the guy in thanks as he looked back at his friend. Danny ran a hand through his dark hair as his blue eyes sparkled with amusement.[/blockquote][/ul]

Noticing Danny's cocky smile and the way his eyes flitted about, Livv could sense that he wasn't quite at his peak of drunk yet. But Pete always knew when it was coming, Danny's self destructive path was well known in around the French Quarter, at least from what she'd learned through the many bartenders she'd already met in the short time she'd been living there. Smirking at his first answer Never she nodded approvingly. I knew you were smart. She teased, nudging him gently with her foot. Clad in a pair of jean shorts, a white t-shirt, and a messy ponytail to complete her look, it was blatantly obvious that Livv had dashed over to care for her friend; of course ... Livv was aware of something almost no one knew. Danny would do the same thing for her were the roles switched. How she knew this so positively, she had no idea. But it was there and it was comforting.
Raising a brow as she tossed a seductive smirk in Danny's direction Livv laughed gently, melodic in so many senses of the word. You never know ... perhaps I'm in need of a plaything. I'm sure you're happy to oblige. Her words her heavy with lust and desire, but not so much that she sounded desperate. It was the same tone she and Danny had used with one another since they'd met. He'd always been an alcoholic, as long as she had known him, and he'd always had issues; she'd always been into other drugs and liquor and had her own issues. Oh yes, they most certainly clicked.
Allowing her arm to wrap around his waist and lift him up Livv shook her head as laughter found it's way past her lips. No, I'm sure you're not god at all drunk. Her eyes twinkled as she helped him stand before releasing him and waiting to see how badly he weaved before her. Thanks Pete. She said, her smile genuine as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and looked back to Danny. Taking Danny by the hand she led him out the door towards her lovely black car and opened the door, standing beside it like a Ford Model or something to that affect; waiting for him to slide into the familiar seat. You can pass out while I finish unpacking if you like... She said slowly, as he stumbled a bit towards the vehicle.
New York flashed into her mind; stumbling herself with Danny at her side, holding each other up as they attempted to find a bar that wouldn't tell them they'd had enough. When they'd exercised all possibilities, they'd made their way, precariously, back to her apartment where they crashed on her bed; fully clothed, not thinking twice about. Waking up the next morning Livv had found herself entwined with the man, her heart pounding for some odd reason. But still drained from the evening before, she'd fallen back to sleep rather than bother moving either of them. Smirking at the memory Livv twirled the keys in between her fingers whilst she waited for Danny. Have you eaten today? She questioned, attempting to gauge the level of intoxication he was at.

he told her, his voice clear and free of drunken slurring. Danny flashed her another grin as he slid into the passenger seat of her car. Once she was in, she asked him if he had eaten. He took a moment to think before leveling his blue gaze on her, "I had cold pizza for breakfast but...that was at like...seven this mornin." he told her with a laugh as he looked at her, "I wouldn't mind eating now though." he told her with a wink, knowing she would get him some food if he asked for it, though he knew that at the moment, she was testing his intoxication level. He was worse off when he hadn't eaten, most people who drank were.[/blockquote][/ul]

When it came to Danny and Livv, they rarely argued. Unless they passionately believed in what they were fighting for ... or too drunk to realize they were arguing about nothing important at all. Having that stand, Livv was all too aware the lengths to which Danny would go to maintain his 'local drunk' label. Hence why she wasn't surprised in the least when his words went from slurred to utterly understandable; barley a trace of drunk anywhere. Allowing him to slip into the car she walked around and made her way into the driver's side, starting the vehicle with agility as he spoke. At his words she began rushing over the list of places to eat in this town. I'll take you, you buy lunch for me. Deal? She asked with confidence, flipping through radio stations as they drove towards Bambu, the local sushi place; one that Livv had quickly fallen in love with. I pick the spot, you were the drunk one, remember? She teased, poking him in the side before parking the car outside of Bambu.
Looking towards Danny, Livv felt that flicker of lust that always managed to find it's way into her mind whilst she was around her old friend. Whatever it was about him ... there were those moments that he just captivated her. Though it was almost a comfort knowing they would probably never be 'romantically' involved; neither of them really saw their relationship that way. Though everyone else seemed to.
So any particular reason for having Pete call me today? She asked as they exited the car and slowly walked up towards the restaurant. Livv's mind whirring around the idea of having some saki with Danny, pittering about with a cigarette before climbing into the vehicle and taking the two of them back to the mansion; where whatever was meant to happen would happen. Biting down on her bottom lip she caught his eye and smirked, wondering what it was that made Danny tick; though she'd never dare ask because he gave her the courtesy of never asking about her past. Which, unbeknown to her, was much more horrific.
The line was long and though Livv knew she could get them inside in seconds, she didn't mind getting to know the town a bit better; speaking with Danny of his odd habits and the like. Opening her mouth to speak Livv's eyes suddenly fell on a figure dancing across the roof, a young black girl in some very outdated clothing. Her hand instantly went to Danny's chiseled bicep and squeezed, her eyes widening as the tiny, screaming girl ran farther across the roof. What is she DOING? Livv questioned, horror crossing her face as the young girl jumped from the roof screaming and vanished into thin air.

he said, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes as he looked at her. "I'll pay, no biggie." They drove into the parking lot and sat in the car for a few moments. It was silent until Livv spoke up asking him if there was a specific reason for him having Pete call her. Danny looked at her and grinned slightly as he caught sight of the flicker of lust in her eyes. "No reason. I actually didn't ask him to call." he said with a shake of his head, "He's a paranoid guy and insisted that I tell him someone to call." he laughed, "He feared for my safety." he said with a shrug. Looking around, Danny felt Livv's hand clutch his bicep almost fearfully as she started ahead at something. He looked in the direction she was staring and caught a glimpse of...a ghost. His best friend's eyes widened in shock and fear, her face clouding up in horror as she grasped his arm. Danny looked towards her and grinned slightly just as the girl vanished into thin air. Reaching his hand over, he gently laid it on the back of her neck as his fingers began to massage the tense muscles there. "Hey Livv." he said calmly, firmly in order to draw her back to him. "You've never seen the La Mar ghost before?" he asked unhelpfully, a small grin on his face as he glanced at her. His eyes sober with concern for the female next to him. "That was Jaya La Mar." he told her confidently, knowing the story behind this town. Danny loved his ghost stories. "What you just saw, was a reinactment of history. The year 1832 to be exact." he said with a small shake of his head. Not believing that Livv Lior had never heard the story or seen the ghost before.[/blockquote][/ul]

There was something strange in the air; after the few things that had happened to the younger Lior, her stomach was finally starting to churn with horror; terror at the idea that perhaps she truly was insane. The moment Danny's fingertips touched her neck she was brought back to reality, her eyes no longer lingering where the young girl should have landed. Staring at Danny with wide eyes, her fingertips still holding onto him tightly, Livv listened to him speak, her other hand covering her lips in her own, small attempt at calming herself. A ghost ... La Mar? Who? Livv asked, her voice shaking while her body leaned against his for support; something she never feared seeking from her long time friend after all the times she'd done it for him. Only this time, she was stone cold sober, and absolutely terrified of what she was going to see next.
First the man on her stove, now a young girl flying off a roof as she screamed; what had happened here that seemed to be haunting her so? The woman seated them while Livv remained tucked securely in Danny's grasp until they sat down. Finally catching his eye Livv took a sip of the water placed before her and then spoke. Who is this Jaya girl?
Taking another sip of water she swallowed slowly, tracing her slender fingertip across the rim of the glass while her penetrating sea green eyes swam through Danny's. What does 1832 have to do with the here and now? She questioned, eating a California roll that was placed before her as an appetizer of the day; one of her favorite dishes no less. As she chewed on her food slowly, savoring the calming and invigorating taste, Livv pondered on the two strange things she'd seen in the week since she'd moved there. Wondering if her sister had seen anything strange and wasn't telling her, or if it was simply Livv herself experiencing what she could only deem as horrific visions of people she'd never even met. Danny ... that's not the first time that's happened. But I'm not sure I'm ready to know why it is... She ventured after taking another sip of water, waiting for him to take her in his arms and comfort the ache and terror away.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

he asked her gently, his voice soft and calming. Taking a moment, Danny began to speak, "From what I've researched..." he began, "In 1832, this big time doctor and his wife moved into some big time mansion." he said as he took a breath, trying to compose his thoughts so he could explain it to her the easiest way possible. "The woman had slaves because...I guess she didn't like doing things herself. Considered royalty or something." he said as he shrugged his big shoulders for a moment, careful not to jostle the female in his arms. "Jaya La Mar, from what I gather, was one of her slaves." he said calmly, "Someone had been beaten to death before her, by the woman's own hand I think, and Jaya was sentenced to die as well. For reasons I'm not sure about." Thinking for a moment, he hugged her gently. "Jaya killed herself in order to get away from the torturer. She cursed the woman as she jumped from the roof. What you just saw re-enacted moments ago." Danny paused before he looked down at Livv. "One thing you're not, is crazy. Everyone sees those ghosts every once in a while." he confessed as he hugged her warmly. "You're safe with me though." he admitted bravely.[/blockquote][/ul]

It felt as if her heart was bound to pounce from her chest with how fast it was beating. Having seen two strange things that were ghosts seemingly ... scared the shit out of her. Never before had Livv ever had to deal with anything such as voodoo or ghostly legends; And now ... she was seeing ghosts die or be tortured? Surely she was going to need medication of some kind to keep her sanity. Looking at the waitress that came up to the table once more she smiled weakly at the woman. Saki please? She'd come to the restaurant often enough since she'd moved there, using her trusty fake i.d, enough times there was no need for such trivial things.
Looking back to Danny as the woman left Livv let off a low sigh, her mind still darting around all the the information she'd just been handed. Placing her elbow on the table, holding her head in her hand, Livv penetrated Danny's eyes with her own startling sea green ones. Are you sure I'm not crazy? She questioned slowly, biting down on her lower lip, using her tongue to toy with the piercing looped through her lip. I just moved here, my parents are dead, Aly is acting bizarre, and now I'm seeing ghosts ... What am I to do? She questioned her more than sober and very close friend. Never before had she so desperately needed Danny to take her in his arms and make the world fade away to nothing; if even for a night.
Biting into yet another California Roll Livv made a mental note that sushi was an excellent comfort food after a strange event such as the one that had just occurred outside. The exhasperation was plain on her face as she attempted to understand why on earth it felt as if the ghosts were following her. That isn't the first one I've seen. She admitted after swallowing and taking a shot of saki the woman placed before them, leaving quickly rather than sticking around to find out why on earth two such good looking people were discussing ghosts and torture. I don't want to be scared Danny ... And Aly isn't coming home tonight ... I don't want to see another one. Pinching the bridge of her nose before taking another saki shot Livv began wandering over everything once again; wondering if Danny was going to take it away or simply help her get drunk until they stumbled along the streets attempting, once again, to find a sober driver. The memory brought a smile though her eyes still held the same harsh fear.

After a moment, she told him that she just moved here and that her sister was acting bizarre. Not to mention the fact that she was seeing ghosts, she asked him what she should do. Danny looked at her for a few moments before speaking once again, "You take it one thing at a time." he said, the hand that was snaked about her waist locking fingers with her free hand. After a moment, she confessed that it hadn't been the first one she'd seen and Danny nodded. He'd already guessed that by her responses but he said nothing. "What else have you seen?" he asked calmly, not in the least disturbed by anything that was coming out of her mouth. Danny was a ghost story and horror buff to an extent so it would take a lot to freak him out. She took a sip of her drink before telling him that she didn't want to be scared and that her sister Aly wasn't going to be home tonight. She didn't want to see another one. Danny squeezed her hand gently as she took another shot of her saki. Shaking his head, he took the drink and finished it off quickly before setting the glass off to the side. "You'll stay with me tonight." he told her calmly, his voice firm but gentle. Letting her know that he wouldn't let anything happen to her if he could help it. He looked at his best friend for a few moments and held her gently against him, his mind trying to find words that he could use for comfort since he'd so carelessly put her into this state of panic.[/blockquote][/ul]

Her heartbeat was slowing down as she took another shot of saki, leaving her delicate features pinched at the taste. Danny had always given her good advice, and vice versa. As long as they found each other whilst they were sober, the advice would not be strange or bizarre in anyway. Biting down on her bottom lip at his question Livv sighed before taking another shot; then speaking A tortured man ... chained to the stove in mine and Aly's new home. I'm not sure who he was ... but he looked horrible and when I reached out to help him, he vanished. At the memory Livv could feel the color drain from her face, remembering how badly the man had appeared; burned and beaten, in a state that no human being should be. Sure, the twenty year old heiress was selfish .. but there was a line. Her compassion shone through more often than not.
Eating one of her California rolls Livv attempted to come to grips with the entire situation. Calming herself into her own reality that everyone saw these ghosts, this was a normal occurance for the French Quarter; there was nothing wrong with her. Right? Sighing after she swallowed she smiled softly at the closest friend she had. Thank you. She said in a barely audible whisper before allowing her head to sink onto his shoulder, her breathing finally at a normal pace. It was rare for a Lior to befriend anyone, much less a male. But Danny and Livv simply fell into the mold without any hesitation, starting with that first night in New York; going shot for shot until both were seeing triples of everything. I'd be lost right now. She admitted quietly, knowing he would understand her desire for soft voices at such a comment.
